In October 2010, the four new nominees for the National Homeschool Book Award were announced. Homeschool kids across the country now have till October 2012 to read The Candymaker, My Name is Mina, Selling Hope and Wonderstruck and then place their votes. NHBA posts activities and ideas related to each book but here in the Twin Cities we go one step further and offer live book clubs including many of those activities.

The next National Homeschool Book Award book is Selling Hope by Kristen Tubbs. NHBA has a very special meeting planned.

Selling Hope is set in the early 1900's in a traveling vaudeville show. The meeting will be held at the historic Southern Theater, originally built as a vaudeville venue in the same year that our story takes place. We will get a tour and hold our meeting right in the theater!

The meeting will include making comet pins, playing a game and eating cream puffs (but don't tell the kids about the snack as they like to guess based on the food they remember from the book).

Please plan to arrive by 10:15 to be ready for the tour to begin right at 10:30am.
