Advanced Naturalist: Butterflies & Dragonflies of the Garden

Explore the prairie and wetlands looking for Lepidoptera (also known as butterflies and moths!) and Odonata (dragonflies and damselflies!). We will learn the difference between butterflies and moths and how these insects are grouped together. We’ll do the same for dragons and damsels. Throughout the Garden we will look for these winged creatures and try to spot some of our most common species.

All students should bring along a bagged lunch or snack and a nature journal or notebook with colored pencils for sketching and notetaking.

All programs meet at the front gate of the Garden.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and walking outside for more than an hour. We go out in all kinds of weather. In case of severe weather, a program may be rescheduled.
