Description: I am trying to create a homeschool band opportunity for families in the Richfield/Bloomington area. We need about 25 kids to start it off strong. (Nine families have shown interest so far.) The "Strike Up The Band" program would be leading this group. They have other bands already established in the Twin Cities.
Costs: The cost for the first child is $49 per month. Costs are discounted if you have more than one child in the program.
The price includes a small-group lesson and approximately one hour of band practice each week. Children are allowed to start in 4th grade for band (maybe earlier if the child is really interested and if the instructor gives the "OK"). If there is enough interest, then an orchestra is also an option and children can start in 2nd grade.
Prerequisites: Children with previous instrumental experience are welcome. Children can also start as complete beginners. They do not have to know how to read music or anything about the instrument before starting in this program.
The program allows you rent-to-own instruments if you do not already have one. If you change instruments during the program, the money you have already paid will go towards the new instrument.
The instructor brings the music stands, music, a bass drum and other drum accessories – everything else.
Schedule: The band lessons are on the same day as band practice. Kids are expected to bring some school work to work on in case they have to wait a little while between their music lesson and band time.
Location: We still need to find a location/church/gym to meet, but the plan is for it to be near the Richfield/Bloomington area. When we get enough people interested, we will plan a time for an informational meeting.
