Classic Nutcracker
With a cast of over 130 dancers, including internationally renowned guest artists, this holiday favorite offers a magical experience with lively choreography, exquisitely designed costumes and brilliant
story-telling through dance.
For novices to this ballet, the story begins on Christmas Eve, where we join a young girl, Clara, her mischievous brother Fritz and their family hosting a party. A latecomer to the party is Clara's mysterious Godfather Drosselmeyer. He presents her with a marvelous gift, a Nutcracker doll. As Clara goes to sleep that night, we are transported into a growing fantasy of the Rat King fighting the toy soldiers, The Nutcracker Prince escorting Clara through the enchanted snow-covered forest and on to his Kingdom of the Sweets where Clara accepts the throne from the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Meet & Greet
A Meet & Greet happens directly after all the student shows and last about 30 minutes. Andrew Rist, the director of Ballet Minnesota, will talk about the ballet and answer questions about the show. Many dancers will stay after as well, for both photos and questions. You may also be able to see some of the props up close. This is a great opportunity for students to really get an understanding of the ballet and what it takes to put on a huge production.
