Dakota City Heritage Village is a living history museum with a collection of historical buildings set on the grounds to represent a rural Minnesota village of 1900. History comes alive for school children with costumed interpreters to help them learn about life in the 1900s.
Two tours are available to homeschoolers:Hands On History Village Experience tour and One Room School Day tour, both for $5 per person each.
Our Hands on History Village Experience is a 2 hour walking tour through 10 of our historical buldings with a costumed guide. Children will pareticipate in hands-on activities such as ringing the school bell, using a slate board and chalk, touching items in the blacksmith building, helping with house chores, and others. Bring your own bag lunch and eat on our picnic grounds.
The One Room School Day tour is a 4 hour tour that includes 2 hours in our authentic one room school with a costumed school marm, lunch (bring your own) and a village tour through our buildings with a costumed guide.
Both tours include a hand-dipped ice cream cone from our drug store after lunch. Dates and times are flexible, tours start September 12 and run through November 4.
