The Energy and U program is a free 45-minute, fun, interactive, demonstration-based show put on by the departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota.

Description:

Everybody is talking about energy: What is it? Where do I get it? Can I convert it? Where can I put it? What happens when I let it out? Energy and U literally blows the lid off these questions, and highlights the many science and technology challenges that energy presents. Join the fun! Learn about energy with an information slide show set to music and demonstrations that include loud explosions, bright flashes, and flames! Meet fantastic University professors who love what they do, and who teach that you, too, could do this every day!

Time:
Two weeks of shows, three shows a day (9:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 1 p.m.)
January 9, 2012, through January 13, 2012
May 14, 2012, through May 18, 2012

Location:
Shows are conducted in 100 Smith Hall, located on the east bank of the Minneapolis campus.

Age :
The show is most appropriate for students in 3rd grade (younger students may not like the noise) through 9th grade; however, high school students are encouraged to attend. We can accommodate up to 300 students at each show, and we try to keep similar grade levels together; e.g., elementary with elementary, junior high/middle school with junior high/middle school, and high school with high school.
